EcoFootprint Romania

The general goal of the EcoFootprint Romania project is to enable Romanian teachers to successfully convey the principles of sustainable living to students and raise awareness about environmental protection. Romanian teachers will gain detailed knowledge about the ecological footprint calculator and its use, becoming experts in reducing the individual and school's ecological footprint and successfully incorporating it into the 6th-grade curriculum. Additionally, Austrian teachers will learn from the experiences and case studies of Romanian colleagues and will be able to use the same teaching materials and tools with their students. Many teachers from Slovenia and Germany will also benefit from well-structured training in their native language, enabling them to teach the concept of the ecological footprint to their students.

To achieve this goal, the EcoFootprint project builds on two previous EUKI projects (REFE and SustainAware), which developed a 6th-grade curriculum on the ecological footprint and an ecological footprint calculator, created for the Slovenian public, among other things. The EcoFootprint project complements these two projects and includes three key elements:

1.) Development of the Romanian ecological footprint calculator, training, and e-learning platform for teachers to improve their knowledge and provide them with a solid foundation for teaching about the ecological footprint.

2.) Exchange of training materials, concepts, and tools with stakeholders from all partner countries and the EUKI community through e-learning platforms and dissemination.

3.) Increase awareness about the ecological footprint among students, teachers, and the school system in general.

The EcoFootprint Romania project is part of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) under the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and is also co-financed by the European Union.

Project partners: Das Wiener Kindertheater (Romania), Institute for Health and Environment (Slovenia), Schule für das Leben (Austria), Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (Romania) and Carpe Europe (Germany).
