While experiencing headaches and fatigue, we might not immediately realise the seriousness of the situation. However, if left untreated, body temperature can rise above 40\u00b0C, leading to life-threatening heatstroke (1).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some<\/span><b> signs of heatstroke include<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high body temperature (above 40\u00b0C);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>hot, dry skin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(due to reduced sweating, indicating that our body is no longer capable of regulating its temperature!);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nausea;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">headache;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">confusion, dizziness, or loss of consciousness (1) (4).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><br><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>If someone exhibits signs of heatstroke, immediate first aid is crucial. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here's what you should do:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Move the person to a shaded, cooler area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\" aria-level=\"1\">razrahljamo ali odstranimo obleko;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cool their body with cold water, cool air, or ice packs on the armpits and groin (focusing on cooling the torso rather than the limbs, as cooling the limbs can cause blood vessels in the skin to constrict, further impeding heat dissipation).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The severely affected individual should not consume anything, including fluids.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seek immediate medical help (1) (4).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><br><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>How can we prevent heatstroke from occurring?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To prevent <\/span><b>heatstroke<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">watch<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for signs like muscle cramps, dizziness, headache, exhaustion, and nausea (4). Take these precautions:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stop physical activity, rest, and find shade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cool the body with cold water or wet clothes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stay hydrated with non-alcoholic, caffeine-free beverages (sip slowly).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the condition doesn't improve within an hour, seek medical assistance (1) (2) (4).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vulnerable individuals during heat waves include the <\/span><b>elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We should also consider <\/span><b>outdoor workers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> athletes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as they are more susceptible to heat-related health issues due to their exposure to high temperatures and physical exertion (3) (5).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ljubljanski ledenik (Ljubljana Glacier) project is an initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the significance, impact, and protection against heat waves.
